Virginia City off to 4-1 start

The Virginia City boys basketball team split two games Saturday - losing 59-58 to Yerington and beating Pahranagat Valley 56-51 - to finish with a 4-1 record at the Hawthorne Tournament.


Kevin Lynch scored 16 points and Chad Sprong 14 to lead the Muckers against Yerington. Dylan Johnson scored 29 points to lead the Yerington Lions, who trailed 49-44 at the end of three quarters.


Sprong, a 6-foot center, scored 25 points to lead the Muckers past Pahranagat Valley. Mitch McDowell and Lynch also scored nine each.


Virginia City visits Wells for three games this weekend, starting with a 7 p.m. game Friday against Wells. The Muckers also play Lund and Calvary Chapel of Las Vegas on Saturday.
