The Galena High boys basketball team was able to warm up for another tough opponent with an unexpectedly easy game against Jefferson of the Bay Area.

Galena rolled to a 79-38 win on Friday at home. "I've never seen them down that bad," Grizzly coach Tom Maurer said. "It was a good day to play a lot of kids."

Tristan Hill scored 14 points and Eric Bischoff added 12 points for Galena. Maurer also praised the play of Eric Maupin, who scored 14 points and also had an entertaining dunk.

Galena's leading scorer, Derek Lorenzen, twisted his ankle during the shootaround, and saw limited action. He's expected to play today when Galena hosts Caldwell, one of the top teams in Idaho, at 4 p.m.

DAYTON 72, RITE OF PASSAGE 32

Maybe it wasn't the same ROP team as last year, but it was still sweet revenge for the Dayton boys basketball team against last season's 3A state champion in the NevadaPrep.com Classic in Winnemucca.

"It was just kind of nice to avenge a score from a year ago," said Dayton coach Rob Streeter, whose team lost to ROP last year in the state semifinals.

Nine of Dayton's 11 players scored and seven player scored for the Dust Devils in the first quarter as they built a 21-10 lead. "We came out and jumped on them early and didn't look back," Streeter said.

Dayton led 35-15 at halftime against ROP, which has dropped down to 2A this season. The Dust Devils set a season high for assists. "We really passed the ball well," Streeter said.

Shane Castro was 7-of-8 from the foul line on the way to scoring 14 points, Josh Wagner had 12 points, Josh Aaker had 11 points and Erik Hopper added 10 points for Dayton, who continues play in the tournament at 6 p.m. today against Lovelock..

BELLEVUE EAST 77, GALENA GIRLS 43

Galena was no match for the No. 1 team in Nebraska at the West Coast Showcase in Reno. "They were a really good team," Galena coach Karen Friel said.

The Grizzlies essentially didn't have their two best players at full strength. Caitlin Anderson, who's still recovering from a minor concussion, was held to two points. "I don't think she was quite a 100 percent, yet," Friel said....

Galena also played without Caitlin Croft, who has been plagued by back problems. Croft is out for the time being until futher testing can be done.

Kaitlin Porter scored 12 points and Langley Iverson added seven points for Galena.
