My Best Christmas: 1953

Mrs. G. Holmes was our teacher. Woodland Grade School was first to eight grades. Mrs. Holmes made Christmas a magic time of year. The Christmas program was a big thing. Everybody came, the school was full and there was standing room only.

Mrs. Holmes said I could be the angel if I could walk across the stage without help. I had a second run-in with polio in 1952. Well, I did it. I just loved those big angel wings and all the gold stars on the skirt.

Wisconsin was cold and knee high in snow every year.
