RENO - The Washoe County District Health Department is expanding its priority groups of people eligible for flu shots.

Beginning Jan. 3, flu shots will be available for anyone 50 or older, out-of-home caregivers, anyone in close contact with high-risk groups, and emergency medical workers.

Those considered to be high risk are people over 65, children younger than 2, pregnant women and those who suffer from chronic diseases.

Like other health agencies around the country, the Washoe County health department had restricted eligibility earlier because of a shortage of vaccine.

But officials say there is now adequate supplies to expand priority groups.
