A memorial service was held for Jack Stowelle O'Leary, a longtime Douglas County resident who died Dec. 24, 2004. He was 79.

Mr. O'Leary was born Nov. 21, 1925, in Weiser, Idaho, to Esther (Orcutt) and Andrew George O'Leary Sr.

A resident of Carson City for one year, he had lived in Douglas County for 39 years.

He married Jacqueline Hally in Weiser on June 18, 1950.

He was a member of Douglas County Volunteer Fire Department and Smith Valley Lions Club; a past president of Carson Valley-Gardnerville Kiwanis and St. Gall's Men's Club; and member of Douglas Lodge 12, Genoa F&A, Kerac Shrine in Reno, and York Rite.

He enjoyed woodwork, metal work and trains.

Mr. O'Leary taught school in Idaho, Smith Valley and Douglas High School and worked as a consultant for the Nevada Department of Education. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was Presbyterian.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1991, and a sister, Patricia Nye.

Survivors include sons Michael and his wife, Pam, of Carson City, and Patrick and his wife, Mary, of Gardnerville; brother George of Moses Lake, Wash.; and three grandchildren, Brandy Dunivan, of Carson City, and Sarah and Amber O'Leary of Gardnerville.

Cremation was at FitzHenry's Crematory.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home in Carson City is in charge of arrangements.
