Dayton boys hoops wins sixth straight

The Dayton express continues to roll and now the Dust Devils will look to keep their momentum going on the road.

Dayton's boys basketball team won its sixth straight on Wednesday with a 59-29 win over Truckee at home. The Dust Devils maintained their hold on what's a wide open race for third in the Northern 4A. "It keeps our hold on third for now," Dayton coach Rob Streeter said.

The Dust Devils (11-9) improved to 7-5 in league to stay ahead of Yerington and Fernley. The Lions were 5-5 and the Vaqueros were 5-6 going into their game on Wednesday.

Dayton has a tough road trip at Lowry "in an extremely tough place to play," Streeter said, on Friday and at Spring Creek on Saturday. Lowry (5-6) is also in the race for third and has won at Dayton this year.

All 10 Dayton players scored for the Dust Devils, who led 10-9 after one quarter. Dayton outscored Truckee 37-13 over the next two quarters to take a 47-22 lead.

"We are playing very well at the defensive end," Streeter said. "We're just doing a much better job of controlling the boards."

Adam Diament has been Dayton's leading rebounder and Danny Hopper, sophomore Josh Aaker and Danny Green have also been strong on the boards.

Matt Bowman scored 12 points, Aaker had nine points, Ryan Blaver had eight points, Diament had seven points and freshman Travis wood added six points.

Dayton was coming off a 47-35 win over North Tahoe. "Definitely the last two games have been a couple of our better games," Streeter said. "Our kids have a lot of confidence in the way we're playing."
