A man in red-tinted glasses and concealing a gun made off with six cartons of cigarettes and cash Monday before disappearing on foot from the Cigarettes Cheaper store in South Carson City.
"We have no forensics and no cameras," said Carson City Sheriff's Chief Deputy Steve Schuette.
About 10 a.m. police were called to the shop in the 3600 block of South Carson Street near the Raley's supermarket on a report of a gunman wearing red glasses "that looked like devil eyes when he looked at the clerk," according to police records.
When police arrived, the 59-year-old clerk said he was approached by a man in a dark ski jacket with a blue and orange knit cap and red-tinted glasses.
"He said, 'Give me the money,'" Detective Steve Johnson said.
The robber handed the clerk two plastic bags he'd brought in with him and the clerk put an undisclosed amount of cash into one and six cartons of an unknown brand of cigarettes into the other.
The clerk told investigators he saw the butt of a weapon inside the man's jacket. He said the robber left on foot northbound.
The suspect was described as between 30 and 40 years old, with curly dyed blonde hair, unshaven but without a beard, wearing a blue ski jacket, knit cap and weighing less than 200 pounds.
