The Dayton High boys basketball team took its medicine which it hopes will make it much more healthier for the upcoming Northern 3A playoffs.
Dayton lost to the Northern 3A's top team, Manogue 60-38, on Wednesday at home. But the Dust Devils figure playing Manogue this close to the playoffs can only help their cause.
The Dust Devils trailed 13-9 after one quarter, but Manogue continued to pull away, leading 27-15 at halftime and 49-31 after three quarters.
"They just kept pulling away," Dayton coach Rob Streeter said. "Manogue's a very good team. They're solid.
"Our kids played hard. We just got to be a little tougher on the boards, take care of the ball a little better."
Matt Bowman scored 12 points for Dayton. "He was very steady for us all four quarters," Streeter said. Adam Diament added eight points for the Dust Devils.
Dayton (8-7 in league) is still in position to place at least fourth in league heading into its regular season finale on Friday at Yerington. Lowry is in the driver's seat for third.
If Dayton ends up fourth and Lowry third, the two teams could be heading for a showdown for the league's third and final spot into the state tournament.
