Mary Loretta Van Zandt, of Citrus Height, Calif., and former local resident, died Feb. 9, 2004 of cancer.
She was born Oct. 6, 1923, in Philadelphia to LeRoy Frances and Anna Violet Colwell. She was a descendant of Aaron Burr.
Mrs. Van Zandt was a senior volunteer for the Nevada State Library's Division of Talking Books for the Blind for 12 years. She was a member of Carson City Emblem Club 507 and past president of South Lake Tahoe Emblem Club 362 and a member of the Carson City Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and the United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Miller Colwell of Berkeley, Calif.; and husband, James L.
Among her survivors are her sons Douglas of Citrus Heights and Stephen of Mather, Calif.; daughter, Patricia Van Zandt of San Jose, Calif.; and granddaughter Sally Marie of Oroville, Calif.
There will be an informal gathering to share memories from 3-5 p.m. Friday at the Mobile Americana II Clubhouse, 6000 Greenback Lane, Citrus Heights.
Private cremation and inurnment will be at a later date.
