Henry F. Cruz, 71, a Gardnerville resident for the past five years, died Feb. 15, 2004, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born May 24, 1932, in San Onefre, Calif., to Stephen and Nellie Robello Cruz.

Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Manteca, Calif.

Mr. Cruz was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 3 in Reno and Local 12 in Southern California. He enjoyed fishing and camping.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Among his survivors are his wife, Rachel, and son, Henry J., both of Gardnerville; brothers Charles of Vista, Calif., Stephen of Tucson, Ariz.; Robert of Carlsbad, Calif., and Lawrence of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; sisters Pauline Trejo of Vista, Calif., Madeline Trejo of Carlsbad, Angie Magana of Oceanside, Calif., Mary Polakiewig of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Margie Gastelum of Carlsbad; daughters Arlene Steinike of Oshkosh, Wis., Joy Baker of LeMesa, Calif., Jackie Snodgrass of Costa Mesa, Calif., Veronica Ramos of Vista, Jeanette Carnes of Livermore, Calif., Jeanine Rodriguez of Carlsbad and Vivian Gonzales of Carruthers, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

No local service will be held.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory. FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
