Police were able to recover a stolen vehicle thanks to a satellite tracking system that located the 2004 Chevy Silverado near a popular sledding area off Highway 50 West.

Employees of Valley Chevrolet discovered the truck missing Tuesday morning about 6:52 a.m. when they found two other vehicles had been rammed during the getaway.

"Someone was able to obtain a key to the Chevy pickup and actually rammed two cars that were blocking the driveway and pushed their way out of the lot," said Carson City Detective Richard Mendoza.

Mendoza said when Valley Chevrolet contacted OnStar, a global positioning tool, they were able to lead police to the truck's location on Spooner Summit. By the time Douglas County sheriff's deputies arrived, the suspect was gone, Mendoza said.

He said witnesses reported seeing one or two men leave the vehicle and get into another car driven by a female.

The truck had minimal damage, and it's believed the car thief had a key which could have been taken from the vehicle Monday.

The truck, towed back to Carson City, will be processed for fingerprints, Mendoza said.
