DAYTON - A head-on collision Friday night on Highway 50 just west of Fortune Drive injured five people and blocked the highway for at least two hours.
According to broadcast reports, two people were critically injured in the 7 p.m. accident about half way between Fortune Drive and the Smith's in Dayton.
Weather conditions delayed response of ambulance helicopters to the scene for nearly an hour as rescue crews worked to free at least one person from the wreckage.
A Central Lyon Fire District ambulance transported some of the injured for treatment.
Traffic was backed up both ways on Highway 50 forcing authorities to divert traffic off Highway 50 and onto River Road.
No information on the condition of the vehicle occupants was available at press time.
