Carson girls hoops defeats McQueen

The Carson High girls basketball team showed its character on the road in pulling out a 49-45 win over a solid McQueen team on Saturday.

Carson was able to outscore the Lancers 14-8 in the fourth quarter despite not having Katie Kotter, who fouled out, down the stretch. Kotter had scored 14 points before fouling out. "She was playing a huge game," Carson coach Alana Williams said.

But the Senators (8-5) received a key contribution from Sarah Johnston. "Sarah Johnston went in and did a great job," Williams said.

Johnston hit some critical free throws, played strong defense and helped lead the effort on the boards to help Carson pull out the win.

Andrea Hoff also had an outstanding game with 13 points and Ciarra Christian added 11 points. Williams was also pleased with her team's effort on the boards against a physical McQueen team.

"I thought that they're rebounding was a lot better," Willliams said. "It was a physical game. I thought that we played real well."

Carson had the advantage at the foul line as it was 16-of-27 while McQueen was 5-of-8.

The Senators were able to build a 10-point first half lead before McQueen came back to tie the score 27-27 at halftime.

CARSON FRESHMEN LOSE

Tiffani Barber scored nine points, Hannah Works and Bethany Perez each had four points and Lindsay Ford added two points for the Carson freshmen girls basketball team (6-3) in its 45-19 loss to McQueen.
