Henry Owen Hamilton, 76, a Yerington resident since 2002, died Jan. 4, 2004, from injuries received in a fire at his home.
Graveside services with military honors were Tuesday at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley with the Rev. George Ryan of the Mason Valley Southern Baptist Church officiating. Military honors were provided by the Veterans Memorial Association.
Mr. Hamilton was born March 11, 1927, in Austin, Texas, to Thomas and Roxy Hamilton.
Mr. Hamilton enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at age 15 and served in World War II with the 3rd Marine Division. He was awarded two Purple Hearts from injuries received in battle in Okinawa. He also received the Asian-Pacific Campaign Medal with the Bronze Star and the Silver Star.
Mr. Hamilton worked for General Motors after his discharge from the service and later worked at Harvey's Wagon Wheel Restaurant at South Lake Tahoe. He also worked in the roofing business for more than 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son Charles in 1994.
Among his survivors are his sons Henry Jr. of Yerington and Rick of Gasquet, Calif.; daughters Carrie Glover of Reno and Cora Jean VilePonteaux of Sawyers Bar, Calif.; brothers Alvin of Granite Shoals, Texas, Thomas of Yerington and Leslie of Houston; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were under the direction of Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington.
