Ralph Myrehn

Ralph Myrehn, a resident of Carson City for the past 34 years, died Jan. 4, 2004, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born May 19, 1918, in Wilmington, Calif., to Emil and Elin Myrehn. He was 85.

Private memorial services were held Friday with the Rev. Stan Pesis officiating.

Mr. Myrehn married Patricia on Feb. 14, 1947, in Costa Mesa, Calif.

He earned a bachelor of arts degree in industrial arts at Long Beach State College, in California. He was a teacher at El Modena High School in Orange, Calif., and a teacher and baseball coach at Whittell High School in Zephyr Cove, where he led the baseball team to its first championship in 1979.

Before retiring in Carson City, he lived at Lake Tahoe.

Mr. Myrehn was a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy and fought in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Myrehn was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Emil and Paul, and sister Mildred.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; daughter, Miki of Monterey, Calif.; sons Ralph of Carson City, Eric of Sacramento, Matthew of Chico, Calif., and Kirk of New York City; sons and daughters-in-law Marc and Karen of Reno and Scott and Stacey of Carson City; grandson, Jared of Carson City; and 25 nieces and nephews.

Mr. Myrehn's ashes will be spread on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe this spring.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Carson City Senior Center's Meals on Wheels Program.
