United States soccer star Brandi Chastain will be the keynote speaker at this year's Salute to Champions Dinner.
The event, which is a fund-raiser for University of Nevada women's athletics, will be held Thursday, April 8 at the Eldorado.
Cocktails and a silent auction begin at 6 p.m. with the dinner to follow at 7. Tickets are $125 per person and $75 for youths 14 and under. Table sponsorships are available.
Chastain has bee a member of the U.S. national team since 1988 and was a member of the 19966 Olympic gold medal and 2000 Olympic silver medal teams. She was also a member of the 1991 and 1999 World Cup title teams and scored the winning goal in the 1999 World Cup finals.
In addition, she was a member of the 2003 World Cup team. She was a founding member of the Women's United Soccer Association in 2001 and was a member of the inaugural WUSA champions, the Bay Area CyberRays.
She is now the assistant coach at Division I power Santa Clara. Her husband, Jerry Smith, is Santa Clara's head coach. Chastain is the granddaughter of Carson City's Roger and Hazel Chastain. For more information, call Linda Thomson, 784-4870, extension 228.
