Well, it's Girl Scout Cookie time. I purchased just a few boxes from Brownies Caitlyn Morton and Courtney Aragon when they dropped by my house Saturday with Caitlyn's mother, Carrie Morton. They explained a great new program that they are promoting.
Local Girl Scouts and Brownies are offering a way to purchase cookies for our Boys & Girls Club. While you are ordering your favorite cookies, add an extra box to be donated to the Boys & Girls Club. It's an easy and fun way to treat a child to tasty treat after school for just $3 a box.
Mr. Smooth Dancer, Phil White from the Sunset Rotary Club, says the annual Sunset Rotary Valentine's Day Dance is right around the corner. It has gotten so big that they moved it to the Piñon Plaza. Why not surprise the one you love (or want to love) with a romantic night out? It includes dinner, a silent auction, roses and dancing to "First Take," a jazz vocalist band featuring Rick Metts.
Do not forget the performance of the amazing, up-and-coming Carson High Jazz Band under the leadership of the vintage talents of the Mile High Jazz Band, a professional ensemble that performs regularly in Northern Nevada. Get your tickets early and help support the band in its efforts to go to a jazz festival in February.
The Ron Wood Family Resource Center has a new program Wednesday nights called Unity, Hope, Attitude and Gratitude, (UHAG). It is run by youth for youth to achieve common goals. What I liked about this program is Megan's description, "I believe that every youth has the ability to shine brightly if given the proper opportunities." The UHAG will use the Tiger Woods Foundation's Start Something program to plan and implement projects. All middle and high school youth are invited.
