"Aesthetic Moment," an exhibit of photography by Minden artist and Carson High School art teacher Paul Ford, will be shown at the Nevada Arts Council's Carson City office Feb. 3 through April 2.

"Art from found material collected in the Sierra Nevada and the Great Basin slowly emerged as the center of my work," Ford said. "Photography and drawing provided the visual resources necessary to create a 3-D representational landscape composed of indigenous soils and grasses. From these resources, I have selected the photographs on display. They represent for me the decisive moment when art happens through the lens."

Ford took a photography class at Southwestern Junior College in San Diego, Calif., after serving in Vietnam. Photography as a creative art form helped him to deal with post-war stress.

"Within a year, in such a positive art-making environment, I was trying my hand at sculpture, printmaking and painting - hungry for the creative spontaneity they afforded," he said.

Ford received an Artist Fellowship from the Nevada Arts Council in 1996. He recently returned from Italy, where he took part in the Biennale Internazionale dell'Arte Contemporanea in Florence.

The Nevada Arts Council's Office Exhibition Series spotlights Nevada artists who are recipients of Arts Council Fellowships, the Governor's Arts Awards Commission, selected as Folk Arts Masters in the apprenticeship program, or as Roster Artists in the Artist in Residence Program.
