"For the food and the price, you can't beat it," said regular customer Gordon Shackles. "We come here for lunch pretty often and for dinner quite a bit too."
Fear not if the counter is full - there's plenty of seating at nearby tables.
Serving Carson City locals since 1973, "The Friendliest Casino In Town" lives up to its name.
"One thing's for sure: This place definitely has the friendliest employees," Shackles said.
Sue Riley has been working the counter for almost seven years.
"She's the best cook in town -no maybe about it," said Shackles. On Thursdays, Riley makes her popular egg salad.
"It's something different," she said with a shrug.
Waitress Debbie Crockett is relatively new to the Horseshoe.
"I've only been here three months -but I been doin' this for 30 years," she said.
At lunchtime Thursday, she greeted a regular.
"Hi, Fred!"
"Hey, Debbie!"
She fixed his BLT just the way he likes it: dry (with no mayo).
"And I remembered the no pickle," she said as she laid strips of bacon on wheat toast with tongs.
Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the Horseshoe Club prides itself on quality meals at bargain prices.
The pancake breakfast special is two huge pancakes, two eggs and your choice of bacon or sausage for $2.50. Add 18 cents tax, and you're out the door for $2.68, never to be hungry again - until the sun comes up tomorrow. Biscuits and gravy are also a popular choice for breakfast.
Lunch is served from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Schedule a hump-day lunch date - Wednesday's special is a bowl of soup and a half a sandwich for $1.50.
Specials are the order of the day at the "friendliest casino." A weekday senior special is half a sandwich and a cup of soup for $1.50.
Nightly dinner specials are $4.95, said Bill Holbert, general manager. Monday and Wednesday are steak nights; Tuesday, it's chicken fried steak; shrimp night is Thursday; and every Friday there's a different homemade meal.
