Coyotes edged by Twins

The Carson Coyotes Senior Babe Ruth baseball team narrowly missed a berth in the state tournament championships round.


Carson lost to the North Tahoe-Truckee Twins 8-7 on Thursday at Sparks High. The Coyotes can still advance to the championship round if it beats the Winnemucca Badgers today in an elimination game at 5:30 p.m. at Sparks High.


The winner will advance to Saturday's championship round, beginning at 11 a.m. at Sparks High, to face the Twins. If Carson beats Winnemucca, it must beat the Twins twice to win the state title.


Carson overcame a 5-0 deficit after three innings to tie the score 5-5 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Twins scored three in the top of the sixth to take an 8-5 lead. The Coyotes scored two in the seventh before the Twins held on.


Brad Breeden had three hits, including a double, Adam Anderson had two hits and an RBI, Jason Knowles had two hits, Wes Osmer, Jack Maloney and A.J. James all had a hit and an RBI and Alex Tanchek and Josh Camper each added a hit for the Coyotes. Osmer pitched four innings and Jarrod Bone pitched three innings for Carson.
