The donation collected at Champion Speedway Saturday was the result of a challenge by Late Model Sportsman driver Joel Worley and his crew.

Worley challenged other drivers and their crews $5 per head to donate to firefighting efforts from the Waterfall fire. The amount collected in the pit area was $220. Two of Worley's crew then collected money from race fans in the grandstands, receiving a total of $628.48.

Worley took the money to the Carson City Fire Department Monday afternoon.

"We thought it would be a good idea to keep the money in Carson City," he said. "So we gave it to the Carson City Fire Department."
