-- Ed Smith, natural resource specialist of the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, and Stacey Giomi, Carson City's acting fire chief, will give a free "Living With Fire" workshop at 7 p.m. in the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St. Smith and Giomi will discuss how a wildfire threatens houses and make recommendations to help reduce the threat. Elwood Miller, executive coordinator of the Nevada Fire Safe Council, will discuss resources available to communities for reducing the wildfire threat. Call Smith at 782-9960.

-- A federal Preliminary Damage Assessment team will begin its investigation into whether Nevada will qualify for a federal Presidential Declaration of Emergency because of the Waterfall fire.
