Cardinals win tournament opener

The Carson Cardinals, playing in the Doc Stewart's Tournament in Roseburg, Oregon, beat Umpqua Valley 15-7 in their first game on Thursday.


It was a back and forth game as Umpqua Valley scored four in the second inning. Carson came back with three in the third and tied the game with two more in the fourth after Umpqua Valley scored one in the top of the inning.


Both teams scored two in the fifth before the Carson squad broke away with three in the sixth and five in the seventh. Danny Rotter started for Carson and pitched four innings. Josh Caron threw the final three innings and got the win.


Rotter was 4-for-6 with two runs scored, Cameron Leck went 2-for-4 with two runs, Kevin Schlange was 2-for-4 with three runs, Tony Fagen was 2-for-2 with two runs, and Jason Alcasas was 4-for-5. The Cardinals are 1-0 in the round robin tournament, and will play the Lafayette Generals today.
