A memorial for Charles Emmett Day, 83, a lifelong Smith resident, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Highway 208 in Yerington.
Mr. Day died June 23, 2004, at his home. He was born April 25, 1921, in Simpson (Smith Valley) to Leland S. and Helen Rickey Day.
He lived his entire life in Smith Valley and Bridgeport, Calif., where he ranched and raised his family. He graduated from Smith Valley High School.
Mr. Day was a charter member of the American National Cattlemen's Association, past member of Nevada Cattlemen's Association, Sweetwater Cattle Association and an honorary sheriff of Mono County, Calif. He enjoyed the outdoors.
Mr. Day served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Leland George Day.
Among his survivors are his wife of 58 years Lucile Brown Day of Smith; daughters Wilma Compston of Gardnerville, Carolyn Whitmire of Minden, Marilyn Ithurburu of Wellington, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington is in charge of arrangements.
