Jason Alcasas pitched a shutout as the Carson City Cardinals baseball team won its final game of the Lithia Motors/Dr. Stewart's Invitational in Roseburg, Ore., on Sunday afternoon.

Alcasas pitched a three-hitter, helping the Cardinals to a 2-0 win over Napa, Calif., for fifth-place in the tournament at Reseburg's Legion Field.

"Overall, we had a pretty good tournament," Cardinals coach Steve Cook said. "I thought we could have won three of the four games. At times, we played pretty young, but most of the time, the kids stepped up and showed they could play against some very good teams."

The Cardinals received some extra acknowledgement following the championship game when catcher Tony Teixeira was honored as the defensive MVP of the tournament.

The Mid-Valley Rockets of Albany, Ore. defeated Dr. Stewart's of Roseburg, 8-6 to claim the championship.

Alcasas struck out six and walked three for the Cardinals (2-2), who scored both of their runs in the third inning. Royal Good singled and scored on an RBI double from Jeff Hurzel, who then scored on an RBI single by Teixeira.

Nick Toscani struck out 10 and allowed just five hits in a losing effort for Napa, which finished 2-2 in the tournament. Tommy Long went 2-for-4 for the Riverdogs.
