Locals help lead Feather River softball

Several local athletes are leading the Feather River Community College softball team as it begins the season.

Feather River opened the season this past weekend by going 1-4 at the Sierra College Tournament in Rocklin, Calif. Feather River opened with an 8-0 win over Yuba City. Carson High graduate Bethany Henry, a freshman, went 2-for-2 with two walks.

Against Yuba City, Feather River took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Douglas High's Cheryl Nicoll, a freshman, scored and Henry scored after being walked. Carson's Kaitie Vidovich, a freshman, scored in the third to make it 3-0.

In the fourth, Henry walked advanced to third on a stolen base and wild pitch and eventually scored. In the fifth, Nicoll and Carson's Heather Diamond scored and Henry added a hit during a four-run rally. The game was called after Henry scored on wild pitch to make it 8-0.

Feather River then lost to Santa Rosa 6-1. Henry scored Feather River's only run after being walked in the first. Vidovich was 1-for-1 with a walk and Henry went 1-for-2.

In its next game Feather River was edged by Ohlone 4-3. Henry scored after she belted a leadoff double in the first. Feather River trailed 4-1 in the fifth when Nicoll doubled and scored on Henry's hit during a two-run rally.

Feather River went on to los to Butte 10-2. Vidovich went 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI and Henry was 1-for-2.

Vidovich hit .667, Henry hit .500 with two RBI and Diamond hit .250 for the tournament.
