Freeman continues to lead hockey team

Eight-year-old D.J. Freeman of Carson City continued to lead the Desert Dogs youth ice hockey team as it went 1-0-1 against the Oakland Bears over the weekend in Oakland, Calif.

Freeman posted a hat trick, scoring three goals in a 9-5 win over the Bears. Reno's Pete Marshall and Zachary Korinek each scored twice. Tyler Stockdale of Portola, Calif., was the winning goalie.

In the second game, Freeman scored the game-tying goal late in the third period on a breakway as the game ended in a 3-3 tie. Truckee's Gage Shaw and Reno's Chris Thrower scored the other goals.

The Desert Dogs will next play on March 27 in Fresno, Calif. The team consists of players from the Carson City, Reno, Truckee and Portola areas.
