A 75-year-old Carson City man who allegedly molested two children was released on house arrest after one of the victims was unavailable to testify at Friday's preliminary hearing.
Fred Ayers, in custody since his Feb. 4 arrest, will be monitored by the Division of Alternative Sentencing with an ankle bracelet until a hearing is held on two counts of felony sexual assault, said Chief Deputy District Attorney Anne Langer.
Langer said Ayers suffers from congestive heart failure and is not deemed a threat to society. A hearing will be held in May to determine if there is enough evidence to go forward with a trial, she said.
He allegedly molested the children between September 2002 and October 2003, according to a criminal complaint filed by the District Attorney's Office. He is charged with two counts of sexual assault on a child under 14 years of age.
