Douglas High standout Luke Rippee has decided to walk on with the University of Nevada football team, NevadaPrep.com has reported.

Rippee, who led the Tigers to their first ever regular season title last season, will likely try to play at the Division I level as a defensive back and could also possibly be used as a return specialist. At 5-11, 170 pounds, Rippee is considered to be too small to play quarterback at the Division I level where he was a standout for the past three years. Rippee threw for 1,698 yards and 17 touchdowns and also rushed for 11 scores last year. He also played defensive back and returned kicks for the Tigers.

Last spring, Rippee had an outstanding performance at the NevadaPrep.com combine. He had the third quickest time of 4.22 seconds in the 20-yard shuttle run, had a 29-inch vertical leap and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.76 seconds.

A possible position for Rippee at the Division I level is strong safety. For him to play stong safety at the Division I level, Rippee would likely need 4.6 40 speed, which should be reachable goal for the Douglas star.
