Seats are still open for an overnight, chartered bus trip to Murphys, Calif., featuring Ironstone Vineyards and the Calaveras Big Trees.

Leaving Carson City the morning of April 25, the trip has been organized by Betty Horton of the Carson City Senior Citizens Center.

"The cost of the trip is $115 per person, double occupancy, or $151 for a single," Horton said.

"The cost includes transportation, lodging, entrance fees, two meals, snacks and gratuities."

Reservations must be made by April 15 in the finance office of the senior center, 911 Beverly Drive. And payment must be made in full by April 16. Overnight accommodations are at the Best Western Sonora Oaks in Sonora, Calif.

"This is a popular trip. We will travel west on Highway 50 to Placerville, then pick up Highway 49 to Columbia, Calif. The bus leaves the senior center at 7:30 a.m. April 25. We will return via Highway 49 to 88 and be back in Carson City by 6 p.m. on the 26th."

Horton said she started volunteering with travel plans about one year ago. She tries to plan destinations that have good accessibility for seniors.

"I do enjoy doing it," Horton said. "Last year, we did a day trip to Truckee just for shopping, and the seniors loved it. The only cost was the bus trip. We just let them loose to shop all day."

Horton also tries to keep prices associated with the trips reasonable.

"It's not our intent to make money off these trips. They're for people who like to travel and expand their experiences. And anybody can go, it's not just for seniors."
