The Great Basin Native Basketweavers Association and the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony will host the Fourth Annual Great Basin Native Basketweavers Association Gathering Thursday through Sunday at the colony gymnasium, 34 Reservation Road.

A special ceremony is planned to honor basket weaver's who have passed on, and to give special recognition to Robert Baker Jr., who was the organization's founder.

Baskets will be available for purchase and weavers will provide demonstrations and classes for those interested in learning and appreciating this traditional art. They will show techniques using willow, horsehair, pine needle, tule and sumac. Basket competition winners will be on display both Saturday and Sunday.

Other activities include Native American entertainment, Indian Tacos, cultural displays and a raffle, with prizes donated by the Great Basin Basketweavers. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and will be sold at the gathering with the drawing taking place at 2 p.m. Sunday.

For information contact Elaine Smokey, chairwoman, at 773-2374; Leah Brady, treasurer, at 279-3080; or Rosemary deSoto, raffle coordinator, at 463-2047.
