Dayton joins in Comstock historic celebration
A gold nugget found in Gold Canyon 154 years ago will be on display 10 a.m. to noon May 15 at the Dayton Historical Society Museum.
Bob Nylen, curator of history at the Nevada State Museum, will exhibit the nugget discovered by Mormon emigrant John Orr in 1850.
The nugget weighs .68 ounces and was a family heirloom before being donated to the Nevada State Museum in 1969.
The exhibition is part of Comstock Historical Weekend. The Dayton museum will feature a chautauqua of early settlers and a self-guided tour of Old Town Dayton.

Virginia City artist's show runs through May 28
Virginia City artist Larry Williamson's exhibit "Images of the Great Basin: Dogs, Rabbits & Other Desert Images," will be shown through May 28 as part of the Art Council's Office eXhibition Series.
The land and inhabitants of the Great Basin are Williamson's inspirations. Pieces of faded wood, horsehair and bones bleached white are his favorite materials.
He received a Nevada Governor's Arts Award for Excellent in the Arts in 2003.
Williamson has lived in Nevada most of his life. He started whittling figures when he was 5. As an art instructor in rural schools for more than 20 years, he taught every subject and medium. He began exhibiting in the 1970s.

Intermediate school to hold dinner and bingo
Dayton Intermediate School's Parent Faculty Club will hold a Family Bingo Night May 14 at DIS on Old Dayton Valley Road in the multipurpose room from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Dinner starts at 5:30, and bingo starts at 6.
The entry fee of $3.50 per person, or $12 for a family of two adults and four children, includes dinner and one bingo ticket. Additional bingo tickets are available for 25 cents. Winners get to pick from a variety of prizes.

Health-care center hosts open house, barbecue
Dayton HealthCare Center will hold an open house and free barbecue from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 15. Visit the center's offices, ARC MedCenters Urgent Care, Dayton Medical Associates, High Desert Therapy, Great Basin Imaging, Tahoe Fracture and the laboratory. A variety of health screenings will be offered. The barbecue starts at 11 a.m.
