Bridgette Galles was a double winner for Dayton High School during the final day of the Northern 3A Regional Track and Field Championships Saturday in Yerington.
Galles, a senior, was impressive in the high jump, winning with a personal and school record clearance of 5-feet, 6 inches that ranks as the best this season among Nevada preps. She also won the 100-meter hurdles by more than a second with her 16.18 clocking.
The top three finishers in each event qualified for the NIAA State Championships this coming Friday and Saturday at Reed High School in Sparks.
Dayton closed out a successful day with a victory in the boys 4x400 relay. The quartet of Billy Mountjoy, Joey Mountjoy, Stephen Novello and Chris Estrada ran a 3:31.35 to edge Bishop Manogue (3:32.78).
Novello also finished third in a closely contested 800, running a 2:03.30 to finish just a step ahead of Manogue's Nate Mendiola and earn a qualifying berth for the state meet. Fernley's Corey Ryan finished second in 2:01.26.
In the boys 3,200, Fernley's Josh Whitman placed second in 10:23.56 and Dayton's Lane Mortensen was third in 10:24.76.
Kevin May also placed third in the boys high jump for Dayton with a throw of 47-8-1/2, while the Fernley duo of Ollie Gruse and Ryan Clifford placed second and third with marks of 39-8 and 39-6-3/4.
