James A. 'Al' Edmundson

James A. "Al" Edmundson, 86, of Boise, died May 13, 2004. He had recently moved to Boise from Carson City in March. Funeral services will be held Monday in Idaho. He will be buried at Cloverdale Memorial Park in Boise with military honors.

A memorial service will also be conducted in Carson City in early July.

Mr. Edmundson was born Sept. 4, 1917, in Shawnee, Okla., to Herbert S. and Cora E. Houchin Edmundson. He graduated from Shawnee High School and Oklahoma A & M College (Oklahoma State) in Dairy Science.

Mr. Edmundson served as major in the U.S. Army, 740th Field Artillery Battalion during WWII. He was in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge.

Mr. Edmundson and his father established Redbud Dairy in Shawnee. He was plant manager for Meadow Gold Dairy. He retired as Bureau Chief of Environmental Health for the Nevada Health Department.

He was a former deacon of First Baptist Church in Carson City. He was active on the advisory board of the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, AARP, Baptists Missions Foundation of Nevada, and Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Carson City, the Leisure Hour Club, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the American Legion.

Mr. Edmundson was married for 61 years to his college sweetheart, Mabel Irene Stroud Edmundson.

Among his survivors are his wife; daughters and sons-in-law Mary and LaVern Gomez, of West Point, Calif.; Margaret Edmundson and Bill Armstrong, of Englewood, Colo.; Minnie and Bill Muniz, of Boise, ID; daughter Martha Edmundson, of Denver; brother Arthur Edmundson and sister Edith Osborn Sweeden, both of Stillwater, Okla.; grandchildren Brenda Hurley Stuvek of Lynwood, Wash., Deanna Hurley Young, of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Leah Hurley of Pensacola, Fla., Colby Inzer of Pocatello, Idaho, Christa Inzer Castillo, of Nampa, Idaho, Spencer Armstrong of Englewood, Colo.; and great-granddaughters Jesi Stuvek and Lauren Young.

He was preceded in death by his brother Ralph and sister Rachel Osborn.
