A funeral for Gene Wilkinson, 71, a Gardnerville resident for the past 20 years, will be at 1 p.m. today at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.
Mr. Wilkinson died May 24, 2004, in Gardnerville. He was born March 30, 1933, in Duncan, Okla., to Fred and Mada Downes Wilkinson.
He married Sandra Snooks.
Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived in Pine Grove, Calif.
Mr. Wilkinson was a member of the Laborers Union Local 185 of Stockton, Calif., from which he retired in 1984. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed camping, attending powwows, playing handgames and drinking iced tea.
Among his survivors are his wife and children Eugene "Bubs", Victoria Wilkinson and Tamara Teller, all of Gardnerville; sisters Nelda Meeks and Arletta Shenefield, both of Placerville, Calif.; brothers Nathan of Santa Rosa, Calif., Fred of Placerville and Huey of Camino, Calif.; and grandchildren Jessica Wright, Daniel McDonald, Angeleque Wright, Joseph McDonald, Sunshine Wilkinson and Destiny Wilkinson and great-grandchild Ivyonna Barns.
Burial will be in the Happy Hunting Grounds Cemetery in Gardnerville.
