The Carson Valley Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team avenged its only loss of the year by beating Carson Middle School 29-26 in the title game of the Tah-Neva Tournament.
No. 1 seeded Carson Valley beat Pau-Wa-Lu 40-20 and then defeated South Tahoe to advance to the finals. Carson beat Eagle Valley on a buzzer beater by one point to make the title game.
Against Pau-Wa-Lu, Jessica Waggoner scored 18 points, Samantha Puzey had 10 points, Danielle Heidt had six points and Niki Hamzik added four points. Hamzik came off the bench to provide Carson Valley a much needed spark on defense, making several steals.
Against Carson, Puzey scored 14 points, Waggoner had six points, Heidt had four points and Maci Pfaffenberger added three points. Puzey led the defense effort and Taryn Williams led Carson Valley on the boards.
Carson Valley was clinging to a two-pont lead with three seconds left when Pfaffenberger hit the front end of a one-and-one. She missed the second free throw, but split two Carson players to grab the rebounds and seal the win.
Carson Valley finished 11-1 and 9-1 in league.
