Two area incumbents re-elected to Assembly

Western Nevada Republicans Lynn Hettrick and Tom Grady both easily won re-election to their Assembly seats Tuesday night.

Hettrick, the Assembly minority leader, collected double the number of votes received by his opponent, independent Randy Green, in both Douglas County and the Incline Village area of Washoe County, which make up Assembly District 39. It will be Hettrick's seventh term in the lower house, and he is expected to return as minority leader.

Green is a Douglas High School teacher who won a seat on the Douglas school board, but was prohibited from serving by a district court ruling.

Grady won his second term representing District 38, which includes Lyon and Storey counties as well as part of Carson City. Grady, a former three-term mayor of Yerington, was, like Hettrick, one of the Republican anti-tax hold-outs in the 2003 session.

He was opposed by Cathylee James, a former member of the Storey County School Board. Grady had a lot more money to spend in the race as well as much better name recognition. He collected 61 percent of the vote in Lyon, 58 percent in Carson City and 52 percent in James' home turf of Storey County.
