Norman Edward Evans

A celebration of life for Norman Edward Evans, 74, a Washoe Valley resident for the past 33 years, will be from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at 5565 Franktown Road, Washoe Valley.

Mr. Evans died Nov. 13, 2004, at his home. He was born March 6, 1930, in Gillette, Wyo., to Edward Marshall and Nina Mae Cooper Evans.

He was home schooled until a teenager and then graduated from Principia, a private school in St. Louis.

Before moving to Washoe Valley, he lived in Seattle.

He married Barbara Lewis on May 13, 1951, in Burton, Wash.

Mr. Evans was a Nevada rancher who founded and operated the Black Gold Arabian Ranch in Washoe Valley. He was past member and director of several Arabian horse associations in Washington and Nevada.

He was an artist beginning in his teens, and he worked as a commercial artist for Boeing for 15 years. He enjoyed painting, hunting, fishing and riding horses. His passion was breeding and showing his Arabian horses.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949 and achieved the rank of corporal.

Among his survivors are his wife, Barbara, of Washoe Valley; son, Ed of Carson City; daughter, Claudia Evans Quarisa of Washoe Valley; brothers Richard of Carson City and Robert of St. Peters, Mo.; grandchildren Katie Quarisa of Reno, Anna Quarisa of Washoe Valley and Shelby Evans of Carson City.

Capitol City Cremation & Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
