A memorial service for Edward L. Small, 74, a Carson City resident for the past eight years, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley with Pastor Jeff Quinn officiating.
Mr. Small died Nov. 16, 2004, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born June 15, 1930, in Michigan, to John William and Mae Wiltse Small.
He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, Mich.
Before moving to Carson City eight years ago, he lived in Saltville, Va.
He married Claudia Prator Nov. 27, 1998, in Carson City.
Mr. Small owned and operated Small's Appliance. He was a minister for 27 years in Virginia. He enjoyed camping, his HO railroad, traveling and meeting people.
He was a member of the Marine Corps League and the VFW, Korean War Veterans Association and the American Legion, the Lions Club and Kiwanis Club in Saltville. He was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Minden.
He served in the U.S. Marines for nine years. He was a member of the Chosen Few.
He was preceded in death by brother, Bill and first wife, Carol Crowgey.
Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; sons Brian Fike of Kennewick, Wash., and Sean Fike of Valley Park, Mo.; daughters Anne Fleus of Woodbridge, Va., Virginia Small of Knoxville, Tenn., Rhonda Ralls of Boise, Idaho, and Melissa Clark of Beaumont, Texas; sisters Shirley Valli of Kernersville, N.C., and Marian Deno of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Wytheville Cemetery in Wytheville, Va.
