The official visit came over the past weekend, but Douglas softball standout Kayla Dunn had her mind made up long in advance.
Dunn has announced a verbal commitment to a full-ride softball scholarship at Georgia Tech for her college career.
"They've been looking at me since I was a sophomore," Dunn said. "I love the coaches there, it just clicked with me."
Dunn, who was considered one of the most highly-touted recruits in the area for the upcoming season, said she made her decision in the summer and will sign her letter of intent later on this fall.
"There were a lot of schools that expressed interest in me," she said. "But this was an easy decision for me.
"The campus was beautiful, the academic program is wonderful, but really it was the coaches. I just got along with them very well."
Dunn visited the campus over the weekend, leaving a life-sized cardboard cutout of herself to take her place in the royal court at Douglas' homecoming football game Friday night.
Although considered one of the most dominating pitchers in the Northern 4A, Dunn will most likely be used as a shortstop by the Yellow Jackets. She has been playing the position regularly with summer tournament teams and made several appearances there during the Tigers' run to the Northern 4A Regional Championship last year.
"I'm going down to play in a tournament in Florida at the end of the month," she said. "They'll see me pitch there, so we'll see."
Georgia Tech was ranked 24th in the country last season and finished runner-up in the ACC tournament to Florida State. The Yellow Jackets received a No. 3 seed for the double-elimination regional round of the NCAA tournament.
Dunn is a senior at Douglas High and is currently the captain of the Tigers' volleyball team.
