Cal Poly San Luis Obispo took the men's rodeo title this past weekend at Feather River and UNLV won the women's division.
Clint Cooper of Cal Poly SLO took home all-around cowboy and his teammate, Sadie Myers, won the women's all-around.
UNLV cowboy Nicholas LaDuke won the saddle bronc with a score of 137 while Garrett Smith of Western Nevada Community College took fourth. Ben Londo (Cal Poly SLO) took first in the bareback with 141 points and Colin McTaggart (Cuesta) won the bull riding with 136 points.
Douglas High graduate Bryce Barnes of UNLV captured the tie down roping in a time of 20.2 seconds and Clint Cooper (Cal Poly SLO) won the steer wrestling in 11.0. Fallon grad Tyson Torvik took fifth for Feather River.
The team of Barnes (UNLV) and John Wiersma (Cal Poly SLO) placed first in the team roping in 13.9.
Jessica Tatone of UNLV took first in the barrel racing in 33.56 and Myers (Cal Poly SLO) won the breakaway roping in 5.7. Jenna Curtis, who graduated from Fallon in 2002, placed first in the goat tying in 13.7 and Feather River cowgirl Raylene Segura, also from Fallon, took third.
Behind Torvik's all-around performance, Feather River escaped past West Hills College 335-315 in the WNCC rodeo a week ago Friday at the Curchill County Fairgrounds.
Cuesta College won the women's division.
Torvik won the steer wrestling in 30.2 and Josh Ruda (Chico) took first in the bareback with 143 points. Doug Davis (Whills) captured the bull riding with 138 points and Clint Cooper (Cal Poly SLO) won the tie down roping in 22.1 Torvik took second in 22.7.
Barnes (UNLV) and Charles Martin (Cal Poly SLO) took first in the team roping in 14.7, and Torvik and Jessie Nuttal (University of Nevada) came in second.
Katie Jones (Cuesta) was selected as all-round cowgirl and Jessica Tatone (UNLV) won the barrel racing in 33.96. Jones took second.
Jandee Scott (UNLV) took first in the breakaway roping in 6.9 and Jones won the goat tying in 15.2.
After two rodeos, Cal Poly SLO leads the men's standings and Cuesta College is ahead in the women's.
