Carson girls soccer loses to N. Valleys

If there's a bright side, the Carson girls soccer team picked a less damaging day to stumble in the Sierra League.

The Senators couldn't finish their chances in a 2-1 loss at North Valleys on Tuesday. Despite the loss, Carson didn't lose as much ground in the league race due to South Tahoe's 3-1 win against Douglas.

Carson (5-2-1), Douglas and South Tahoe are all tied in the loss column in the race for first in the Sierra League as all three clubs have two losses in league play. The Senators have a key showdown with South Tahoe on Saturday.

"It's our same old story," said Carson coach Randy Roser about Tuesday's game. "We had plenty of opportunities. We just can't finish the ball. It was a rough one."

Roser said both of North Valleys' goals were disputed, including one in which a North Valleys player pushed one of Carson's defenders out of the way and then scored. "Both goals were very questionable," Roser said.

But Roser said his team lost because it couldn't finish its chances. "If we would have finished the opportunities we had, it would have been a 6-2-type game," Roser said.

Carson's goal did come on an outstanding shot by Cassie Bowman, who scored on a free kick from 30 yards. "It was beautiful," Roser said.

Roser also praised the play of defenders, Sammy Valerius, Ashley Briscoe and Kathryn Rogers.
