Youth football teams win again

The Carson Junior Pee Wee Blue Pop Warner football team took little time to established its running game against the Reno Jets in a 31-0 win.

On Carson's third offensive play from scrimmage, Dylan Sawyer took the ball from quarterback Colin McCulloch and rumbled 12 yards down field to score Carson's first touchdown. Carson second possession saw Chance Quilling take the ball from the Senators other quarterback Brandon Akers and scamper 22 yards around the left end and score the Senators second touchdown of the quarter. Carson would end the first quarter with a 19-0.

"We got a chance to give all of our kids a lot of playing time," coach Leonard Lee said. "With Douglas coming up next Friday night, we needed to get everyone some extra playing time."

Carson's line consisting of Keegan Aiazzi, John Borges, Keith Collier, Alex Crathers, Nick Garcia, Issac Hernandez, Jacob Myers, Austin Pacheco, Clinton Page, Pongasi, Cody Reno and Andrew Toland provided great blocking throughout the night for Akers, Patrick Craugh, McCulloch, Daniel Okimura, Pacheco, Gabriel Pongasi, Quilling, Sawyers and Joseph Zinda. Sawyer ended the night with three touchdowns and an extra point while Quilling scored two touchdowns for the Senators.

Defense was the name of the game for the Senators as they posted their fifth consecutive shutout in as many games. Carson's defense led by Sam Blei, Austin Brown, Rodney Calhoun, Levi Carter, Cole Dufresne, Alex Eddy, Tony Fondi, Cody Hammond, Patrick Hesse, Willy McDonald, Pacheco, Logan Peternell, Pongasi, Quilling, Sawyers, Kurtis Scull, Zach White and Zinda frustrated Reno most of the night. Peternell had three sacks, Blei and White each had a fumble recovery and Pacheco intercepted a pass.

Carson will travel to Gardnerville this Friday to take on the Douglas White team. Both teams come into Friday night's game undefeated and looking to take the division lead. Game time is at 8 p.m.

JUNIOR MIDGETS 40, FALLON 6

The Fallon Green Wave started the first offensive drive with short, effective passing that reached the Carson 2 yard line. Carson's defense held and took over and mounted a march of 98 yards capped off by a Beau Bickel 4 yard TD carry.

Carson's other scoring came from Zack Burnaugh on a end run of 8 yards followed by Blake Plattsmier's pass to Burnaugh for a 22 yard TD effort. Kris Cananigo then scooted around right end for a 15 yard tally, followed by Levi Bloxton's blocked punt and return for a 25 yard score.

Reece Conrad, William Flores, Brandon Patterson and Levi Bloxton took over the running duties in the late stages of the game with Reece making a 30 yard dash to the end zone. Carson coaches had extra praise for the offensive line led by Justin Barlow, Gabe Renteria, Clint Gross, Max Kilgore, Matt Cooper, Aaron Friesell, Eric Robertson, Jonathon Shinn, Brandon Watkins and Anthony Pfeifer.

The defensive unit played well allowing only one score on a long pass to Fallon's slot back. Kenny Rees, Randall Oxoby, Luke Carter, Jacob Devers, Caleb Jeffers, Robbie Barlow, Ben Berg, Beau Bickel and Devin Lytle were effective in containing the Fallon Squad.

The Carson Junior Midget Team was treated to a halftime cheerleading routine to begin the second half. The girls and coaches traveling to Fallon on Saturday continued to show their support. All the Carson cheer squads will compete in Sparks later in October to qualify for Regional Competition in November.

The Junior Midget football team matches up with the Sparks Cardinals Friday night at Governor's field starting at 6 p.m.
