Colten Mellows came up with the play of the year just in time for the Douglas High boys soccer team to keep its Northern 4A playoff hopes alive.

Mellows scored with one minute left in the game to give Douglas a 2-1 win over Reno High on Wednesday. Douglas (8-7-1) improved to 5-5 in the Sierra League and now trails third place Reno (6-4) by one game and fourth place Carson (5-4-1) by one-half game.

Douglas finishes the season with Wooster on Saturday and against Carson on Monday while the Senators play Reno on Saturday.

Mellows stole the ball from the defender and sent the ball past the Reno goalie from about 18 yards out to score the game winner. After a scoreless first half, Nick Cohee scored for Douglas, which outshot Reno 22-8, to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Marking defender Kyle Currence also played well for Douglas.
