The Carson High volleyball team can be a little more relaxed as it took care of clinching a Northern 4A playoff berth by sweeping Wooster in 25-15, 25-18, 25-19 on Thursday at home.

Carson improved to 7-3 in the Sierra League, clinching a playoff spot and virtually assuring itself of a third place finish in the league, heading into its last two matches against Reno High and Douglas.

Senator coach Shana Wilkins said it was the first time this season her club was on all cylinders as a team.

"It was a great match," she said. "It was the first time we played as a team all season. They're putting it together when it matters."

Carson jumped out to a 7-2 lead in game three. After Wooster closed to within 7-5, quick hits by Nicole Scott and Catherine Brekken off sets from Lindsay Ford and Sydney Parker's crosscourt kill made it 10-6. Sandra McAlman had four kills during one stretch as the Senators built an 18-12 lead. McAlman ripped a fastball down the line to make it 15-9 and then came back with a changeup over the middle to make it 16-10.

Wooster closed to 20-18, but kills by Lindsey Kern and Brekken and a Ford dink helped put the match away. Scott had eight kills and three blocks, McAlman had six kills, Brekken had four kills and three blocks, Kern had three kills, two aces and nine digs and Ford added 25 assists, three digs and four blocks.
