A funeral for Thomas D. Davis, 80, a Minden resident for the past nine years, will be at noon Saturday at St. Gall Catholic Church in Gardnerville.

Viewing will be at 6 p.m. today at St. Gall and a Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today.

Mr. Davis died Oct. 19, 2004, at Evergreen Care Center in Gardnerville. He was born Sept. 23, 1924, in Tehachapi, Calif., to Chauncey and Maude Anderson Davis.

He married Helen E. Ennis July 26, 1947, in Los Angeles.

Before moving to Minden, he lived in Monterey Park, Calif.

Mr. Davis retired from the Los Angeles Police Department after 29 years of service, during which he was awarded the Medal of Valor, the highest honor given by the LAPD. He enjoyed his family, deep sea fishing and traveling. He was a member of St. Gall.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 526th Armored Infantry Battalion. He was involved in defensive patrol action in the Battle of the Bulge, receiving the purple heart, bronze star and other medals.

He was preceded in death by brother, Everett, and sister, Evelyn Catalano.

Among his survivors are his wife of Minden; sons Michael T. of San Gabriel, Calif., Joseph G. of Diamond Bar, Calif., and Thomas H. of Hawaii; daughters Michele M. Wagner-Centers of Minden, Mary H. Landau of Fountain Valley, Calif., Anne E. Stepanian of Hacienda Heights, Calif., Patricia M. Davis and Joan G. Ramos, both of Montebello, Calif., and Suzanne G. Davis of Granada Hills, Calif.; sister Patricia Gracey of Tehachapi; 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Inurnment will be at a later date at the Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Fernley.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory. FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
