Christy Works took seventh to lead a solid effort by the Carson High boys and girls cross country team at a meet hosted by Spanish Springs on Friday.
No team scores were taken in the event, which included virtually all the Northern 4A schools, including traditional powers Reno High and Galena.
Works took seventh in 23 minutes, .04 seconds. Reno's Mel Lawrence, who is ranked second in the nation, won the event, covering the three-mile course in 19:35.
Carson's Annie Brinson would have likely placed in the top 10 had she not started the race two minutes late. She covered the course in 23:39.
Also for Carson, Patty Capistrant took 13th in 23:53, Krista Casci was 27th in 25:15, Kristen Neidenreip was 28th in 25:20, Gloria Sosa took 29th in 25:23 and Megan Myer took 30th in 25:24.
Brinson said he was pleased with the way his runners were bunched together. "We were happy about how they were tight with each other time-wise," Brinson said.
