Charles "Chuck" Austin Bent

Charles "Chuck" Austin Bent, 85, died Sept. 3, 2004, at Mason Valley Residence in Yerington. He was born Aug. 10, 1919, in Land 'O Lakes, Wis., to Austin and Mary Bent.

He married Gloria Haynes in 1946 in Reno.

Mr. Bent was the postmaster in Silver Springs from 1958 to 1972.

He loved exploring the state of Nevada with his family and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of local history. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting for gold in the White Mountains and tinkering with everything from clocks to cars.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Fernley and of the Showshoe Thompson Chapter of E Clampus Vitus.

During World War II, he was a machinist at the Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, Calif.

Among his survivors are his wife of 16 years, Marge Reymer-Bent; and son, Stan.

At his request, his cremains will be scattered over the White Mountains.
