Carson City fire crews responded to a linen fire at Mission Industries plant No. 40 at 1161 Fairview Drive just before 7 p.m. Saturday evening.

The fire, which began after plant hours and burned for about 15 minutes, started in carts full of dirty linen on the outside of the building, according to Assistant Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi, and quickly made its way into the linen-processing runs on the inside.

Giomi said the cleanup would be extensive. "All the linen has to be pulled apart to make sure there's no fire inside," he said.

Three engines from the Carson City Fire Department, including one mutual-aid engine, were on the scene immediately.

Structural damage to an outer metal wall and at least two dozen plastic green containers full of singed linen were evident.

The scene of the fire resembled the deck of a garbage scow that had been raised from the bottom of the sea.

A storage facility next door was untouched by the flames.

Mission Industries is a statewide linen vendors to hotels, restaurants and casinos. The company could not be reached for comment.
