Arthur H. Thomas

A graveside service for Arthur H. Thomas, 83, a Washington state resident for the past seven years, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lone Mountain Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-noon Friday at FitzHenry's Chapel of Faith.

Mr. Thomas died Sept. 9, 2004, in Longview, Wash. He was born Sept. 25, 1920, in Fallon to Horace Samuel and Mildred Genevieve Rickey Thomas. He was raised in the Carson Valley and graduated from Douglas High School in Gardnerville.

He was a member of the Nevada National Guard. He served in Europe and the Philippines in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served during the Berlin airlift in the Air Force and in the Korean War. He retired as a major in the U.S. Air Force in 1980. He was a graduate of the USAF Command and Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

After retiring, he was a driver's license examiner for the state of Nevada. He was active in the Society of American Military Engineers, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the Nevada Historical Society and the First Presbyterian Church of Carson City. His hobby was radio communication.

He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Beulah Janet Leonard Thomas in 1997.

Among his survivors are his daughters Janet McNicholas of Cathlamet, Wash., and Arlene Ferreirae of Rancho Cordova, Calif.; sister, Verona Ging of Lovelock; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
